Kicking off a home design project is always an exciting moment for any homeowner. However, it can be very easy to get carried away and go quickly over budget without any guard rails in place. Luckily, I have some of my top tips to share on how to invest in a home design project strategically.

Where to Invest Your Money Wisely
There are a few areas of a renovation or design project where it pays (pun intended) to make good investments. Any item that’s in a high-traffic area, and/or is used daily fall into this category. Flooring, countertops, and performance fabrics for upholstered furniture easily come to mind. These elements need to withstand stains and wear and tear for years to come, so choose wisely!

Where to Save Your Dollars Strategically
On the other hand, there are plenty of areas where you can save strategically. These are items that can be easily swapped out when you want to update your look. This can include area rugs, throw pillows, small décor pieces, and lighting.
Where to Begin Planning for the Project
It’s so important to have a plan in place before the project kicks off. If you are planning on purchasing furnishings in addition to a renovation, make sure to research the cost of the furnishings you’re looking to incorporate to determine if you can move forward with purchasing them during the renovation process or will need to keep what you have until you’re able to save up after the renovation portion of the project is completed.
There is a huge amount of value in partnering with a designer when tackling any home project. We ensure that our clients’ money is well-spent and make sure that the right furnishings are selected in order to achieve the dream home they envision for themselves and their families.
