Relaxing Office Design
A light and bright space that transitions from workday to nighttime
Relaxing Office Design
My client came to me looking for help with her sunroom in Waban, MA. She wanted it to do double duty as a home office during the day and a space for entertaining at night.
The catch is that the space is just over 120 sq. ft. Luckily, I’m always up for a good challenge. Here’s how I addressed my client’s needs:
Her previous furniture was all really dark, including a chocolate brown loveseat that her cat used as its’ personal scratching post. I selected shades of light beige, white, blue, and gray/silver to keep the space feeling calm, light and bright. The fabric on the loveseat is a tight weave that is scratch proof against kitty claws.
I also incorporated pieces that were going to pull double duty. The chair she uses during the day at her desk easily translates into seating for one of her guests. Her desk can be pushed against a wall and be used as an additional surface for serving drinks/food for guests.
Finally, I added additional seating through poufs that can be brought out when guests are visiting or when my client wants to put her feet up after a long day. When not in use, they tuck into the trunk that serves as a coffee table.
Initially, my client was hesitant about the wine grid since she already had different wine storage that was given to her as a gift. As she saw the space starting to come together and the other new bar storage pieces go in place, she immediately asked to order the wine grid!
My client is already in love with the space, even though we’re waiting on the new loveseat and wine grid to arrive. Designing a home office that has to pull double duty as a workspace during the day and a space to entertain guests at night has allowed my client to maximize the space she has and be proud to show it off!
